    old characters

What does "old characters" mean in the following? Great people of the past?

Doing this means thinking and talking about what truly inspires you, whatever in the world that might be---creating new products that improve the quality of life, teaching old folks how to dance, solving problems or puzzles, reading about new ideas or old characters...

    Thank you.

    Re: old characters

They could be old characters from fiction- it doesn't have to mean historical figures. In fact, I'd go more for fictional people than real ones.
