    look the part

    I'm not sure what the following in red is saying.

    Tierney's openness to change blossomed later, when he learned how to look the part of a business professional, then how to be a partner, and then how to be a very effective executive.

    "To look the part" means to present himself as a business professional: dress, demeanor, attitude.
