    (a) net profit

For the period from 2 Feb 2013 to 31 December 2013, the financial statement showed a net profit of $1m with total revenue of 100m.

Is "a" optional in the above sentence?

    Re: (a) net profit

    The article 'a' is required.
It should be 'nett profit' in BrE, which is used in Hong Kong.

    Re: (a) net profit

    Thanks tedmc

Should we use 'a' before total revenue?

Yes, 'a' is used for profit, loss, income, revenue, expenditure, etc in accounting language.

This is incorrect. 'Net' is just fine in BrE. Click here.

    Re: (a) net profit

The original spelling in BrE is 'nett' but it has been gradually changing to follow the AmE spelling, no?

I don't see any reason to correct an OP's spelling with an archaic spelling.

Ok, I should not have corrected the spelling.
I wouldn't call the spelling archaic, it is still acceptable and shown in the dictionaries.

It is just that the spelling has been Americanized, like many other things.

    Re: (a) net profit

I understand, but as you can see from Rover's Ngram that word is hardly in use anymore. For me, that is archaic.
