    Study before prayers!

    hi guys

Is anybody here who knows the meaning of " study before prayers"?

in a movie, a kid arrived his school late, and his teacher told him: "late, study before prayers"

I really appreciate if you help me out.

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: Study before prayers!

    Not a teacher.

What kind of school was it? A religious one? My best guest is the time before prayers was spent in a leisure fashion with everybody allowed to do their own thing but this guy was punished for his late arrivel to spend his time before the prayers by studying instead of playing, reading, doing his own thing etc.. Well, it sounds a little bit morbid but maybe someone else will throw a better or different light on what you want to know.

    Re: Study before prayers!

Prayers could be a term for assembly- a time in the morning when the whole school gathers, which was once for a religious ceremony, but is less strictly religious nowadays in the UK. The study could refer to the office of one of the more important staff, like the head, so the person could have to go to their office before assembly for a punishment or scolding.
