    time clause in the past

    Hello.

We do not use future tenses in time clauses. Ex: I will start when I am ready.

So, just a quick question: If we speak about the past events is the following sentence correct?

I would start as soon as he arrived.

    Thank you.

Yes, it's correct. It means the same as "I used to start as soon as he arrived."

Thank you. Unnecessary. Just click Thank when you get a useful answer.
If you mean that your starting was a habitual action in the past, then 'I would start as soon as he arrived' is fine.
