    I bought a winter jacket and it has elastic straps that you can adjust to your size.

    I bought a winter jacket and it has elastic straps that you can adjust to your size. The clerk says to me:

    You could/can adjust the strap to make the jacket fit you tighter.

    Should it be can or could here?
