    If get too hot, . . .

    Hi,

    - If get too hot, an engine starts to smoke.

Yesterday, I was told by one of my friends - she is not a native - that the sentence I have written is OK. However, I did not - still cannot - understand how it is grammatically OK. How can we put a verb - in here 'get' after 'if' with no subject?

    Could you please enlighten me?

    Thanks.

    It's not correct.

If an engine gets too hot, it will start to smoke.

Your friend is wrong. Perhaps she should join this forum and get some help with her own English.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
