    Four sons

    Hi guys,

If a couple has four sons. Tom, Kevin, Steven and Tobi. So how would we address them? "Kevin is their second son", "Steven is their fourth son"? And should we say "Four sons" or "son"?

A couple has four sons — Tom, Kevin, Steven and Tobi. How should we refer to them?
Have you listed them with the oldest first, or the youngest?

Surely you know that 'four sons' is plural. Why would you think 'four son' might be correct?

    Re: Four sons

If you have listed the sons in their birth order, then Steven in their third son, not fourth.

Usually (in English) names that end in "i" are girls' names. I expect his name was Toby. (Though I have never seen "Tobi" as a girl's name.)
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Four sons

Okay, so we can say "Eldest son" or "He is the oldest first" or "The youngest one" or "He is their third or fourth son".

    Re: Four sons

We don't say 'He is the oldest first'. The others are OK.
