    The sentence which I don't understand as follow:

    when the funeral was long since over--Obbo rapped on the front door.


    Please explain to me!

    Roughly, it means "Obbo knocked on the door several hours after the funeral." (It may be that the funeral took place in the morning and Obbo rapped/knocked on the door in the evening so a certain "long" while passed between the end of the obsequies and the moment of Obbo´s rapping on the door).
