    Cardinals

Please clarify the following in red.

And her longtime boyfriend, Ian Sawyers---a British-born soccer coach whom she'd met through club circles in Southern California and who would start coaching the Cardinals the following year---supported her.

Does "club circles" mean a sports club? And does "Cardinals" refer to the soccer team at Stanford University?

    Thank you.

    Re: Cardinals

    1) "Club circles" means networks of people who are interested in that particular club. 2) Yes.

    Re: Cardinals

Stanford refers to its teams as "The Stanford Cardinal", not "the Cardinals".
