    material/cover

Please set me clear on the following in red. From <<Leading the Life You Want>> by Stewart D. Friedman.

By 1972, Springsteen was writing all of his own material rather than performing covers.

Does "material" just refer to "music", or "songs"?
And what does "performing covers" mean?

    Thank you.

And what does "performing covers" mean? 'Singing other people's songs'.

    Re: material/cover

Yes, material refers to music or songs. "Performing covers" means playing the music from other bands.

    Re: material/cover

A "cover" or a "cover version" is the term used when a musician makes their own version of a song previously performed by a different singer or band.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

It is anything a musician writes- instrumental, song, etc.
