    having got the flue

Is it correct to say the flue is 'common' these days because every body has got the flue?

    Re: having got the flue

If everybody had the flu it would certainly be common. I would say the flu is going around and it is something you need to watch out for.

Only those with fireplaces have the flue.

Your sentence is OK (if you don't capitalise "flu") but, in BrE at least, it would be more natural as "I caught flu and [after a couple of days] I started coughing. We also say "I got flu". "Gotten" is used in AmE, but not in BrE.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
