Hi,

I know what "kidney beans" are. They are red in colour. We have the similar beans but they are yellow in colour. Can I call them "yellow kidney beans"? I'll upload the pictures if you are not sure what I am talking about. Let me know, please.

Say:

We have similar beans, but they are yellow.

(It is usually not necessary to say something like "red in color".)

When you say "yellow" kidney beans, are you by any chance referring to Cannellini beans?

I can't imagine a can that just says "beans"! How on earth would you know what you were buying? That's like buying a "meat pie" - no way! If you can't tell me what meat is in it, I'm not touching it with a bargepole. (Well, to be fair, I wouldn't touch any meat with a bargepole but you get the drift.)

Hey, I'm depending on my memory. (I think the can does have a picture on the label.)

The suspense of waiting for untaught to come back to us with a photo is killing me! ;-)

Before uploading a picture, I was searching on Google.

I found two words "black-eyed bean/pea" and "cowpea". I think it's called "black-eyed bean/pea".

You can find lots of pics of kidney beans on the Internet. (Most of them are red, but I saw a couple of pics of yellowish kidney beans.)

(How good is my memory? Well, as it turns out, that can of beans contains chickpeas, not kidney beans. And I haven't even tried them yet, which is why I can still look at the label.)

Black-eyed peas are very different from kidney beans, although both are legumes. In the American South, it's a tradition to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. Kidney beans, on the other hand, are best used (IMHO) to make chili.

Yech, never much cared for chickpeas. And I loathe hummus, which is made from chickpeas and is often touted as a healthy, trendy alternative dip for chips, crackers and vegetables (as opposed to the standard-as-God-intended French onion dip).

Do they cause blindness? ;-)

No, they don't cause blindness. (At least, I don't think so.) I meant that if I had eaten them I would have thrown the can in the trash. (Although, I guess I could have taken the can out of the trash to look at the label.)

Maybe I'll eat them later today. (I've been thinking about them enough.)

Black-eyed beans don't look anything like kidney beans, yellow or otherwise.

Edit: Sorry, I missed Jill's earlier post saying the same thing.
