Any of the claim or claims

"I want to check whether any of the previous claims have been paid or not". Do we need to say "any of the claim or claims"?

Re: Any of the claim or claims

It can be either, depending on the number of unpaid claims you have.

If it were a singular claim, then the verb would have to be "has".

If it were just one claim you wouldn't say 'any of the claim'.

Re: Any of the claim or claims

It could refer to part of a claim.

It could, under other circumstances, but the OP wants to know 'whether any of the previous claims have been paid or not'. I thought it was a grammar question.

If he wanted to know whether any part of any of the previous claims had been paid, that would be another matter.

Re: Any of the claim or claims

The OP asked if it should be claim or claims. That was a question, not a statement.

What do you want to say? How many claims are there?

If there are several claims and you want to know whether any of them have been paid, then you should say, 'I want to check whether any of the previous claims have been paid or not.'

If there is just one claim and you want to know whether it has been paid, you should say, 'I want to check whether the claim has been paid or not.'

If there is just one claim and you want to know whether any part of it has been paid, you should say, 'I want to check whether any (part) of the claim has been paid or not.'
