why are you asking? / why do you ask?

    Hi,

    A: How old are you?
B: Why do you ask? or Why are you asking?

I tried to write such a dialogue. Which one is more proper to use - simple present or continious? I think both are OK, but I cannot make sure or that.

    Thanks.
