Dear all,

Do you often say, "It's my day" or "It's not my day" to mean "I'm lucky today" or "I'm not lucky today?"

Are they popular phrases?

Thank you!

Hello, O.P.:

I just thought that you would like to know this popular phrase (if you don't already know it):

Mona: Oh, what a beautiful sweater you are wearing!

O.P.: Thank you so much, Mona. You've made my day!

(That is to say: Your praise really makes me happy. I will have a good day today because your kind words will remain with me all day. I don't think that anything can make me happier today than the words that you have just said to me.)

Hello, OP:

I think you will find that the phrase "It's not my day" is used much more often than the other one. I think that may be based on the belief of most of us that every day should be our day, and when things aren't going well it is due to an unusual set of circumstances.

:)

Instead of "It's my day", you will certainly hear "It's my lucky day". It's sometimes used sarcastically too.

"It's not my day" is natural and common. "It's my day" has never been heard in my experience.
