    I drink cow's milk.

    Hi,

    Are these correct?

    I drink cow's milk.
I drink the milk of the cow.

The first is natural. The second is not, although it is grammatically correct.

    Re: I drink cow's milk.

Milk, if unspecified, is assumed to be cow's milk. (Unless the subject is breastfeeding.)

    Re: I drink cow's milk.

That's probably true most of the time but, these days, so many people drink different animal milks as well as non-dairy milks, I'm not sure we all assume it is cow's milk.

At my health food shop, we sell cow's milk, goat's milk, cow's milk yoghurt, sheep's milk yoghurt, goat's milk yoghurt, soya milk, almond milk, hemp milk, hazelnut milk, rice milk, coconut milk, and we're considering stocking buffalo milk.

If someone comes in and says "Do you sell milk?", we definitely don't assume cow's milk any more.

    Re: I drink cow's milk.

That may be true in a health food store. But for most people, cow's milk is the default.
