    was walking vs walking

    Hello,

I was walking downtown when I saw Dave. So I stopped, and we talked for a while.

in this sentence, if I use 'walked' instead of 'was walking', could it be wrong? I don't see the point...

    Re: was walking vs walking

    Hello!
Past Continous is the correct form, because you were in the process of walking when you saw Dave. Usually the past continous ( I was walking) is interrupted by an action which is in the past simple (when I saw Dave).

    Re: was walking vs walking

It is clear from the sentences that you were still walking when you saw Dave. Then you stopped walking.
