    Re: Improving English

The same question can be asked about the quickest way to improve any other language; your own language, Vietnamese, for example. The same principles apply.
Living in an English-speaking country which provides the environment and the exposure helps a lot.
Well, it basically boils down to two factors - practice and exposure.

P.S. I notice that you live in Australia. That is excellent opportunity for you to learn the language. People who live in Asian countries are not as lucky as you are.

    Hello, Tuannguyen:

I believe the "secret" to learning any foreign language is motivation + immersion.

If you are really motivated to learn it, you will. (Let's say that you are promised $1,000,000 if you can pass a proficiency test in English in one year from now. I am sure that you would make sure that you passed that test.)

You have to completely immerse yourself in that language: Read only English newspapers; associate only with English-speaking people; work only with English-speaking people. According to another poster, you are in Australia. Great! I know that it will be hard, but you need to (gently and respectfully) limit the time that you spend with people who speak your first language. Spend very possible minute with native Australians. Go to the Australian cinema every day, go to Australian restaurants, get an Australian roommate (that would probably be the fastest way to learn English in a natural manner), and surround yourself with Australian friends.

    Good luck,

    James
