    double negative: nobody was not

    Are these sentences correct:

    1) Nobody was not allowed to participate.
(Meaning: Everybody was allowed to participate)

    2) No man was not allowed to leave.
(Meaning:Every man was allowed to leave.)

Logically they make sense, but I don't think I have ever heard sentences like those. I think native speakers would probably consider them wrong, or at best very strange.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Why bother with such sentences?
Simple and clear sentences are always the best.

Re: double negative: nobody was not

I can't make an argument for the second at all. It's just wrong. The first is not impossible but I can't see a reason why anyone would say it instead of "Everybody was allowed to participate".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    I am not a teacher.

It's the sort of thing one finds in logic problems, not in the real world.
