Is it correct to short a sentence in this way?

I´ve heard someone say He´s one of jane´s

Could it be an abbreviation of "He is one of jane´s friends?
I have also heard "the suit´s my dad´s"
I think the second is completely wrong it should be "the suit is one of my dad´s clothes"
What do you think?
Thanks

"The suit's my dad's" is complicated but perfect. It means "The suit belongs to my dad." Cf "The style's my own". I think "He's one of Jane's" needs more context in order to be interpreted.
