    Why do we say..." those pants are nice" I'm only referring to a pair of pants...Is " that pants is nice" possible here?

    A pair of trousers has two pant legs, hence plural trousers and pants.

    Those pants are ...
    That pair is ....
    That pair of pants is ...
    That pants is ... <ungrammatical>

    "pants" is plural.

    Cf. sunglasses, two optical, glass lenses.
