Exclamation The buildings' forms and functions are evidence of dynamic social life

"The buildings' forms and functions are evidence of dynamic social life that has long been tied to centers of economic and political power."

From the text in bold, which of the following will be correct?!
I have always troubled in distinguishing them.

    1-economic power and political power.
    2-economic and political power.

They mean the same thing. You do not have to repeat the common noun, 'power'.
