    How to pronounce temperature?

    How to pronounce temperature?

I used to say tem-pe-ra-ture, but it seems not correct.

    I heard someone said tem-pe-ture.

    Re: How to pronounce temperature?

    I am not a teacher.

It's pronounced /ˈtɛmp(ə)rətʃə/. The 'e' after the 'temp' is barely sounded, if at all, unless you are saying it very carefully.

I sound it. Just out of interest, how do you pronounce "Wednesday", do you sound the "d"?

    Re: How to pronounce temperature?

I know your post was directed to Roman55 but I thought I'd chime in. I say "temp-ruh-tyuh" so I omit the second "e" like many others. I don't pronounce the "d" in Wednesday.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: How to pronounce temperature?

Karen, your original pronunciation is correct. Many people leave out the "e" but that does not make your pronunciation wrong.

"Tem-pe-ture" is rather common in AmE. In fact, I've been known to say it myself.

    Re: How to pronounce temperature?

I think it's more like "temp-ra-ture" in many cases.

    Re: How to pronounce temperature?

But to come back to the OP's question, there is nothing wrong with "tem-pe-ra-ture".

    I am not a teacher.

Well, I sound the second one.

I pronounce Wednesday exactly as emsr2d2 described. If you sound the (first) 'd', where do you place it? Is it after the 'n' as in Wendsday?

BTW, what has Wednesday to do with temperature?
