See above. In BrE, we only use the word "alms" when we refer to "Maundy Thursday" when the monarch gives out small amounts of money to a select number of poor people. I have never heard it used in any other context.

Simply say "Please don't give money to beggars."

Note that giving money to beggars is not a crime in most countries.
