    CPE sample (BE vs. AE)

    Hello ALL! =)

I'm doing CPE samples, and today I had an annoying problem.

    The question was:

".. for anyone willing to forsake the beaten _____, and .."

    (A) path
    (B) road
    (C) track
    (D) course

I chose (A), but answer was (C) and this made me understand the question:

    off the beaten track
(US also off the beaten path)
in a place where few people go, far from any main roads and towns

    -- From Cambridge online

in US is common to say PATH but in UK TRACK in this collocation?

Should I go for BE collocations and Phrasal Verbs? There is so much difference?

I will really appreciate your comments!!!

    Thanks,

    Marco

Re: CPE sample (BE vs. AE)

It would be advisable to know which version of English the CPE uses. That said, marking "path" as incorrect is wrong in my opinion.

It is "beaten path" in AmE.
