    Are.
    Are is used for plural, and the message and attachment are 2 different things. Also, the confusion probably came from the fact that you used "This" to start your sentence. I don't think it's correctly placed to be honest.

    Thing is, "this" in my opinion shouldn't have been placed there at all.

    But, if you consider "this message and attachment" as one thing, then it can be singular. And then "this" does make sense.
