    Fall Under

Suppose a new law affects some types of buildings:

    1. "The new law applies to some buildings in the town."
    2. "Some buildings in the town fall under the new law."

I definitely found sentences on the web using "fall under" like sentence 2 to have the same sense as sentence 1, but I could not find a dictionary definition that would make sentence 2 similar to sentence 1. Could the usage of "fall under" in sentence 2 be wrong?

The usage in 2 is correct.
