    has sold

Sir Xs old home in Y has sold for Z at an auctionin the city.

To me, it sounds like the home has sold something, and not Sir X.

Would it be better with one of the bellow, or has sold was used correctly? Is it just a different way of saying "it was sold"?

    1. Sir Xs old home in Y has been sold for Z at an auction in the city.
    2. Sir X sold his old home in Y for Z at an auction in the city. (The transaction took place then and is now over.)

    or

    3. Sir Xs old home in Y was sold for Z at an auctionin the city. (The transaction took place then and is now over.)

    Re: has sold

The original was correct. "Has sold for" could not be interpreted as the house selling something.
