    Check the dictionary!

    I was wondering which of the following is correct:


    1) You can check dictionaries.
    2) You can check the dictionary. [It sounds very natural but I was thinking, which one actually, by the use of 'the']
    3) You can check the dictionaries.

    It is common to use "the dictionary" to refer the concept of dictionaries. It does not have to refer to just one.
