    the earning statement of the company

    What does "the earning statement" mean in the following sentence:

    "The items listed as assets are really expenses covered up in order to increase the earning statement of the company."

    Does "the earning statement" mean the same as "balance"?

    I think it must be the bottom line (net profit).
