In this case the correct option is "Because".

You could use "so" but you would need to rewrite the sentence and put it like this:

- I was tired, so I went to bed.

Notice that in this case you are using "So" as a linker.

Hope this helps! :-D..

Now that everyone's certain it's because, I would venture to say that you would use "so" similar to the way that you would use "then". It shows that your actions or feelings were following by actions.

It was cold outside, so I put on my sweater.

I put on my sweater because it was cold outside.

I went outside and then I put on my sweater.

That's what it seems like, but I could be wrong as I didn't take it from a book or anything. :)

Poll Options I went to bed because I was tired.

so
because

I think that it depends on the context :

What was the reason for going to bed ?:"I was tired "
---->using " Because " is obligatory in this case .

On the other hands ,

What was the result after feeling tired ?:"I went to bed "

---->using "So"is obligatory in this case:
I was tired,so i went to bed .

Greetings.

Its definitely BECAUSE. It implies that is the reason why you went to bed. If you use SO, it implies the reason you were tired was because you went to bed, which doesnt makes sense.

According to you, i say : "I learned hardly, so I was tired", It's Ok.

Thank for advance.
