This is not my homework.

I came across this problem recently and thought more than one answers could be possible.
Please tell me if any of the answers is wrong and if it is then please also explain the error.


He ............(arrive) after I .............(finish) my last letter.

1:-arrived had finished
2:-will arrive have finished

There are lots of possible answers here, but the two you mentioned are correct. ;-)

Consider for example,

He could have arrived after I had finished my last letter.

I consider 'more than one' singular, but I am not a teacher.
