    ambiguous sentence

    Hi there

I have a question about the sentence below.
"We never arrived at the kindergarten before nine, an hour and a half late."

Does it mean they should arrive at 7:30 and they are an hour and a half late?
Or does it mean they should arrive at 9 but they arrive at 10:30?

Is this sentence ambiguous to native speakers of English?

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: ambiguous sentence

To me there's no ambiguity. They should have arrived at 7.30.

    Re: ambiguous sentence

Assuming that they arrived at 7:30, should it be 'We never arrived at the kindergarten at (instead of 'before') nine'?
It is because 7:30 was before nine. Am I wrong?
    Not a teacher.
