    astringent

Persimmon and tea are astringent. I found the word astringent in my dictionary but I was thinking if it is the word that I can use in my speaking or there must be a more usual word.
I found acrid too, is it more appropriate for speaking?
    Thanks,

You can use any legitimate word in your English usage. That said, neither of these words is in common use.

Can I ask you what you call this taste?

    Re: astringent

Many of the dictionaries here suggest 'bitter'.
