Exacerbate the misfits' predicament, as they more than not, not able to fit in

    Context:
Some argue that the implementation of sports to the school could ameliorate the social outcasts' social issues and help them fit in, but such an overoptimistic assumption is unwarranted and definitely poorly thought-out.
In fact, such scheme could further exacerbate the misfits' predicament, as they, more often than not, not able to fit as they are in poor shape, or not athletically inclined
Any errors? Does it work well? any words that are tamer than outcasts?

Some argue that the implementation of sports programs in schools could ameliorate the situation for social outcasts and help them fit in, but such an overoptimistic assumption is unwarranted and definitely poorly thought-out.
In fact, such schemes could further exacerbate the misfits' predicaments, as they are, more often than not, physically in poor shape, or not athletically inclined, and so not able to fit in.
