My friend asks when I'm going to LA. I say:

I'm going to be there for a few days in April before I fly to Vegas for the furniture exhibition.

    VS

I'm going to be there for a few days before I fly to Vegas for the Furniture exhibition in April.

    Are both okay?

The first answer makes sense, although it could be more precise about exactly when in April.

The second fails to answer the question "when?".

Both answers could nevertheless be appropriate if both of you know what interval you are talking about. For example, if the LA show is from April 14-18, your second answer presumes that he wants to know whether your are flying to LA on the 12th, 13th etc.

That's a pretty lame excuse for going to Vegas.

For the responses to make sense, your first sentence should be "My friend asks me when I'm going to be in LA". If your friend asks when you're going to LA, the answer would be "I'm going next week" or "I'm going on Tuesday" or "I'm going in April" etc.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
