Please correct the following paragraph if it is not.

The payment of sell books has directly received by the bank.We were not aware about the receipt of the payment of $100/- nor the banker has informed us. It was disclosed when we got the bank statement. If we know the information about the payment, we will inform you first. Sorry for inconvenience.

TW, your first sentence is incorrect. It is not books for "sell" it is books for "sale". The original version "of $100" was fine. The last sentence would be better as "when we know about the payment".

OVER HERE MEELA!
Thanks Mike

I changed 'the' to 'any' because there isn't inconvenience yet. There is a chance that there may be inconvenience but by doing that, at least you aren't guaranteeing inconvenience.

PS. If teechar sees the 'sell, sale' thingy, I just want him to know that I am fully aware of the danger of homophones. Plus that smirk. ;-)

You're welcome. Please note that "sale" and "sell" are not homophones.

Actually, they are. Sell is a verb and sale is a noun. And please no rhyming sessions again, I'm exhausted with those. Maybe a two-day break.

What is the context for this paragraph? Did someone inquire why they had not received any book though they already paid?

If that is the case, then there is indeed some inconvenience that has been experienced.

First you say that the payment was disclosed when you got your bank statement. Then you say you will inform them "if" (or "when," from TW) you know about it. It's completely unclear what the situation is that you are writing about.

Look up "homophone" in a dictionary. Then take a break.

@ Soothing Dave

I agree. At first, it sounded as if it was two situations. Confusing at first.

I would have written '... as if there were two situations.'

TW, you need to be very sure of your facts before contradicting a native speaker and VIP member such as MikeNewYork.

I learned from a grammar site that both 'was' and 'were' can be the past subjunctive. Is it right or wrong?

Not a teacher.

You will find "were" used like this in AmE much more than in BrE. "Was" sounds uneducated to my ears.

Correct if I'm wrong. I thought 'was' is singular and 'were' is plural.

'If I were you, I would (verb).'
'I' is singular, but 'were' is used.
I am not a teacher. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Never mind, then. By the way, I only thought. Thanks Matthew.
