    Past perfect continuous

Hi. I was wondering if I would use the past perfect continuous tense or just the past simple tense in the following sentence.

Last August, when I took the plane in Canada to come back to Italy, I had been listening to the radio for the whole trip.

    Re: Past perfect continuous

    No. I listened to.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Past perfect continuous

The past perfect denotes that 'listening' happened before 'took the plane' rather than during the flight.
    Am I right or wrong?
    Not a teacher.

    Re: Past perfect continuous

Your corrections were not necessary. The only part that needed correction was "in Canada" to be "from Canada." Additionally we don't know that Italy is home.

    Re: Past perfect continuous

I find the original overly wordy, even with the corrections.

"Last August, when I flew back to Italy from Canada, I listened to the radio for the whole flight."

It should be noted that we generally can't pick up radio transmissions while on a plane. Perhaps "I listened to music" would be better.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
