    before killed; before being killed

    Dear all,

    1. Before being killed, he left a message to his family.

    2. Before killed, he left a message to his family.

I think #1 is fine, but what about #2? Is "being" in #1 optional, or necessary?

    Thank you!

    You cannot omit 'being'.

    You could say:

Before he was killed, he left a message for his family.

Re: before killed; before being killed

You could indeed, and that would be far more natural than "before being killed.".
