    add "ed" =?

The suspects were activated from sleeper cells in Tunisia, he said. He did not say which group activated them, or with whom they trained.

Why is the end of the word added the "ed"?

    Re: add "ed" =?

    I am not a teacher.

It's all in the past tense. They trained with someone in the past.

'With whom they train' implies that they are still alive and still undergoing training.
