Aim Band 8
Succesfull sports professionals can earn a great deal more than people in other important professions. Some people think this is fully justified while others think it is unfair.
Discuss both these view and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
The recent economic recession, which started in 2008, has raised new financial issues regarding spending review and spending cuts in order to reduce wastes. In Addition, a controversial problem related to public celebrities' salaries has raised, creating a debate if they deserve such incomes or not. Moreover, considering a football player can earn even 200.000£ per week, another question is if these resources could be spent in a more appropriate way in terms of social improvement.
In this new emerging argue, many affirm that such wages are too high believing that sports professionals earn much more than how they should, compared to othe professions doubtless more relevant in terms of social contribution. However, it is well known the passion that links supporters to their team, therefore many consider such disparity necessary and also a last-minute penalty or a last-second-winning-point more important than everything else.
The opposite opinion states, on the contrary, that such profits are justified because athletes offer much more than a kick to a ball or an overtaking at the last curve. What is offered is a "breathless second" that worths more than everything. Doctors, engineers and teacher earn considerably much less than athelets working harder and longer besides offering foundamental services to the society. Anyway, this doesn't seem to prevent this social disparity, on the contrary, the more time passes, more this discrepancy seems to increase.
in conclusion, a more accurate way of spending money is required. The Lionel Messi's monthly profits, roughly 1.6 million €, could be used to build new research centres and new schools, in a time when new important social issues are emerging.
Any suggestion to reach the aim score band is welcomed
