    Meaning of a sentence

Hey guys! Here is a sentence which I cannot figure out its true meaning. Hope some can help clarify it a littler bit.

the sentence is "The representative office shall not employ Chinese national registered lawyers outside of China." what is the expression "outside of China" meaning here? Does it refer to the lawyers? I find it very confusing.

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Meaning of a sentence

It means that Chinese lawyers may not be employed by the firm in places that are not within China. It's a very interesting and unusual sentence, and I would appreciate more context.

"Chinese national registered lawyers" doesn't make sense.

    Re: Meaning of a sentence

I think it is translated by word by word directly.

If I want to express the lawyers registered in some country or their home town, how to say it?

noahzhang, please note that a better title would have been outside of China.

You could use "China-registered lawyers" or "Beijing-registered lawyers".

May I use 'registered lawyers in China'?

    Re: Meaning of a sentence

You can but it doesn't mean they registered in China. I could be a lawyer who is registered in the UK and I just happen to be in China. I would be "a registered lawyer in China". "A lawyer registered in China" would mean that they registered in China.
