    Understand "how else"

    Below is the sentense

    Of course the data that is retrieved from the remote database is serialized somehow internally, how else would it be transferred from one computer to another?

    I don't understand the "how else would it be...?"

    How else = in what other way?

    If it wasn't the case that the data was 'serialized somehow', then how would it be possible to transfer it from one computer to another?
