    cleft sentences beginning with "It"

In cleft sentences beginning with "It", I have seen the relative pronouns "who" or "that" used after the word or phrase we want to emphasize. Can we also use "which" in place of "who" or "that"?

Are you talking about sentences about people or things?

As far as I know, the part of the sentence that we want to emphasize may be people or thing or neither of them. For example, rewritten in cleft sentence, "I first met her in a restaurant" becomes "It was in a restaurant that I first met her." What I want to know is whether "which" can be used in place of "that" or "who".

In that sentence, it has to be 'that'.

It was a dog that bit me sounds much more natural than the version with which. However, I wouldn't regard which as wrong.

You could also do a Google search for "which or that" - include the quotes.
