What is the difference between "support" and "sponsor"? The former seems to be both mental and physical, while the latter, physical. The following question doesnt' seem to be correct.
Q. Choose the most awkward one when replaced.
① supported → sponsored② recalled → remembered③ encourage → inspire④ treated → dealt with⑤ grateful → thankful
And then, there was Alice’s note. It said that I was a perfect friend and always supported her. Reading what she had written about me, I recalled the time when we were close friends. She was always there for me when I was going through hard times. She listened to my problems and tried to encourage me with friendly words. Whenever I needed a shoulder to cry on, she used to be the first person I could depend on. I felt very sorry for what I had done to her. I realized how badly I had treated her. At the same time, I was grateful to her for always being a good friend to me.
I am not a teacher.
It looks fine to me. Sponsored would be completely out of place here.
Other than the specific usage of 'sponsor' in the context of support groups (which doesn't appear to be the context here), they are very dissimilar.
