What´s the weather like? or How is the weather?

Once I've been told it is incorrect to say "How is the weather?" The correct form should be "What's the weather like?"
But I've seen in a British TV programme people saying the first phrase. Is it really incorrect?

    Welcome to the forum.

It's not incorrect at all. We use it a lot. My only advice would be that you not use it in a formal or exam situation. However, in everyday English, it's absolutely fine.

Who told you it was wrong?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

I guess he refered to it whether I use in a CAE or CPE Exam.

That would be crazy. They are both in common, normal, educated English usage.
What would you use in an exam if you wanted to ask someone about the weather conditions?
