What are loose sentences? Periodic sentences? Combination sentences?

Loose sentences
Here's one of mine:
  • John was happy that as a result of hard work for the first time ever he got an A on his report card.
What do you think? May I see one of yours?

Periodic sentences

Here's one of mine:
  • As a result of celebrating and drinking too much champagne, John was drunk.
What do you think? May I see one of yours?

combination sentences

Write some loose sentences, some periodic sentences, and some combination sentences. Feel free to post some of them here.

You might want to rewrite that. It's a little confusing, especially the ending.

Maybe.

I think I know what the problem is.
  • She agreed to marry him, live with him and go through all that life threw at them at his side.
I think what throws the reader is all that life threw at them etc. For one thing, you have live (present tense), go (present tense), then threw (past tense). Perhaps:
  • She agreed to marry him, live with him and go to the ends of the earth with him.

What do you think? :)

(I'm not sure that sentence fits the pattern anyhow, but I'll ask Cas to comment.)

:)
