    I knew your name is/was

    Hi,

    - I knew your name is Jane.

I would like to ask if I can use 'is' in the sentence above or not. I have seached for it on the Internet, but I felt totally confused.

    Thank you!

    I am not a teacher.

It's not natural. I would use 'was'.

"Is" works fine. Her name hasn't changed.

"Was" is appropriate in certain situations.

Gosh darn it, I knew your name was Jane. Why did I call you Julie?

I wouldn't use "is". It's not natural for me, either.
