Talking to an airbnb host. I say:

I'm sorry but I decided to cancel because I had found a less expensive place to stay while I'm in Singapore.

Is the past perfect used correctly or even necessary here?

"I had found" is neither correct nor necessary. "I decided to cancel because I found ...". Or "I have decided to cancel because I have found ...". You will hear people mixing those two tenses, as in "I decided to cancel because I have found...". I can't say it's wrong, but as a personal preference I avoid it.

Airbnb is a service that lets people rent out their apartments, etc. to others via the internet. For short stays. Or, to let people find accommodations through this system.

Like Uber, but with private residences replacing hotel rooms instead of private cars replacing taxis.

The "bnb" is for "bed and breakfast."
